Vintage Tour of Denver Sluice, Summer Jolly! Picking up in - St Ives, Needingworth, Earith, Bluntisham, Somersham, Chatteris
View Dates & Book
Denver Sluice is the focal point of the flood defence system that protects the low lying Fens. The sluice was first built by Cornelius Vermuyden in the 1650s, but the present structure was built in 1834 by Sir John Rennie, before being enlarged in the 1920s. Running parallel to the River Great Ouse is the Relief Channel, the final link in the drainage system, completed in 1964.
We take you in our 1951 Bedford OB coach for a private tour led by the Superintendent of the famous site. The tour takes around 90 minutes, this is a full walking tour of the site including 5 sluices, 2 locks and a fish pass.
We then visit The Baytree garden centre at Hillgay for lunch and time at your leisure then we set off, via the scenic route, we set off, sun roof back, summer sun shining through, for a pleasant ride home.
